* Seriously, Not Serious.
Even though I want to talk about the most serious matters,
please dont take these too seriously.
as a matter of fact, please don't take anyone or anything too seriously.
news outlet will try to convince you this event is the most important thing in the history of mankind.
retail store will try to convince you this sale is the best price you will ever see anywhere.
if you could acquire a good sense of humor, it turns out that life is somewhat comedic. somewhat poetic. snafu.
in a long enough timeline,
everythings you hear
will turn out to be a bs.
or dont matter much.
(like high school midterms.
it meant the whole world to you back then.
now, you dont even remember what it is about.)
(i.e., read unbearable lightness of being)
I am still seeking what that matters, invariable to time and fads
so far, what i have found are ...
=========================================
I like to listen to these musics, while reading the rest...
===================================
My loathings are simple: stupidity, oppression, crime, cruelty, soft music.
- Vladimir Nabokov
===================================
* the inertia.
(viewing the society as a form of physics.
If you do lots of data science/analysis,
you start to see everything in terms of numbers and math, and build that hidden model that governs the system. some might be wrong. some might be comically simple. at that point, i feel proud and sad, ambivalently.)
we hate the people we used to hate. (stronger and acute feeling)
we like the people we used to like. (long-term, broad, inter-connected feeling)
we dont change that much.
one day, you get in the morning, and say,
"ah, it's a new day. i am going to like that person that i didnt like until yesterday."
we don't do that.
we had reasons, and since factors didn't change much, our reasoning would stay the same.
the data is the same.
This is the most sane approach to living.
Keep on doing what you are doing, if it is working okay.
I am not urging you to change your mind on everything and anything.
but, What if, the result was borderline, if we use different algorithm, the outcome might come out differently.
Or, What if, we could get access to more data, more factors than we used to, the outcome might come out differently.
The bigger hidden problem, that media and many other people are abusing is the human psychology.
the first impression factor kicks in.
our brain wants to simplify everything. that we like to define things. and in process, it limits things.
for my convinience, you will be "that guy who with the funky hair".
all your life has been simplified into one phrase, and you didnt even partake in the name making.
so, the mass media and famous people are trying to get that "3-second title".
doesn't matter whether it is true, or accurate.
as long as it is entertaining. or favors my financial interests.
I will call you "king of the observed and unobserved universe" if you will give me a tax break.
and, that you would buy a tiny piece of land, in the frequently flooded area.
or, in a grandeur scale, it is the 51% hacking. meaning, it takes 51% to win the election.
some micro instance, that happend 3 days before the election, affected this.
and, in a long run, everyone forgot it was 51/49 split, and it becomes 100/0 in their head.
because human brain like to simplify things.
What matter is who won.
These "What if"s are the only thing I am asking.
the advantage of being human, is in its adaptability.
if new things are happening, we should adapt to it.
entropy is always increasing.
the capacity for diversity is increasing.
(filtering down to useful bits is another story)
as this might sound crazy. but if we just could do be able to change our mind on somethings, after that initial emotional response,
this might be the first step toward the world peace, or whatever you believe in..
But, this unfixedness would be a source of craziness, as well. where every idea is flying around chaotically.
then, the real problem is what do we keep, and what do we change?
================================
* conservatives vs progressive.
It is absurd to divide people into good and bad.
People are either charming or tedious.
- Oscar Wilde
let's talk politics.
(well, that escalated quickly..)
I dont think there is an easy delineation between "good" and "evil"
I think that "black or white" theory is a bit outdated theory.
it is more of "stability taker" or "risk taker".
And, the evil lies in "those who think different from us", that the easiest way it to "call them evil"
we confuse "different" and "wrong", because we work with the assumption that "everything i know is correct, so everything that is different is wrong".
we confuse "personal belief" with "universal truth".
People like to believe this is true, thus "stock market" exist.
yet, those who still believe this, will call stock market as "irrational".
I think they are right, but for a different reason. it *was* a true market, but its function got deformed by ultimately intelligence/greed/you have freedom to be stupid/caveat emptor.
They will say, correlation is causation. again, i would like to agree. but, that is why i write these things. and, why i think "tag model" is more accurate than "folder model", and why our organic brain is stuck in the "folder model", and why we can leverage computer (more exactly, math) to achieve a more accurate answer.
What I am saying, is that we should abandon reptilian response. (and, mammalian brain justified reptilian response)
we can still use them, to make people buy stuff. I dont like that. but marketing people will still use it. everyone is susceptable to advertising. so be it.
but, at the core of everything, when we make important decisions, we should *at least* try to make the best possible decision. using whatever means available.
the system is not built, favoring the intelligence and logic.
the system is built, favoring obedience and followship.
so, try to learn something that is not taught.
(and, you will get met with active mis-information, along with talented clowns.)

majority of politics is like deciding on which side of the road to drive on, and who is the boss.
politics is not about science nor the truth. politics is about power.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifaRhL95HUM
"power is power"
but, politics as a governing structure. a structure that plato and locke would have discussed. or, how john nash was intrigued by the governing dynamics. or wiener's cybernetics, which also means "governor" or "governator"
government as a system. a system that is composed of many systems. such as laws, police, tax, banking, taxing, health care, and so on.
nevertherless, it is an organization. which is a "system". simialr to computer system. system is a system. it has rules. (and, my rule is that spelling mistakes dont mean much) and it has components/players.
throughout history, there has been always 2 groups of people.
Apollonian(order) and Dionysian(chaos) is another similar concept.
for the nation vs for the individual.
for the group vs for the person.
any traditional govt with a long history vs anything goes wild wild west.
conservative vs progressive.
old testaments vs new testaments
for trust vs for privacy
for national registar vs for internet anonymity
those who like what it is now. vs those who want to change (and make it better).
republican vs libertarian
senate vs house
those who have children, vs those who do not have children.
the real world, the grown-up world where money rules vs the kid's world. made-up world. disneyland.
socialist vs capitalist.
peacetime(single superpower) vs wartime(superpower challenged).
Defense build fortress model vs Attack, small team model
stationary vs mobility
Plant vs Animal
politicians vs artists.
property-owning class vs labor-market class
royal family vs vaesectomy
Order vs Chaos.
Orchestra vs FreeStyle.
rationality vs puzzles.
centralized vs decentralized
train vs private airplane
cooperators vs disruptors.
sustainbility vs disrupt.
be practical vs be creative.
We need to stick together. vs Let me be whom I am.
This is the ultimate best answer. vs There is more than one way to do it.
(the dichotomy list can go on...)
let's not call one is bad, and the other is good.
in some movies, the bad guys are "the ruler of the dark empire, and built a large system to make people into slaves (starwars)"
in some movies, the bad guys are "terrorist who try to disrupt the order and civilization, and Jack Bauer will hunt them down. (24)"
this constant cycle of "cooperation" and "disrupt" is "by design".
what i mean "by design", is that it is a NATURAL thing for people to build a system, and destory a system.
kant calls it "Asocial Sociability".
biologists calls this 2 opposing forces as "survival of the fittest" and "random mutation". ("survial of the fittest" is analogous to the force of the centrality. and "random mutation" of the force of the diversity.)
asian folklore ROTK says, "The empire long united must divide..." and "The empire long divided must unite", to be the best description of human society.
"cooperation" by definition, has a factor of following. following the rule. we can cooperate only if we agree on something.
"disrupt" by definition, has a factor of trying something new. that could unbalance the existing ecosystem.
all in all, this is a good design. This cyclical system is actually a good system.
it is much better than one-sided system, where power rots, and chaos ensues.
flexible system. adaptable system lasts longer.
All this conservative vs progressive runs far into almost every field.
in design,
some people prefer the design to mimic the old existing product. so the new user can adapt to it with ease.
some people prefer a totally new design, rebuilt from ground up, gets rid of all the old archaic unused, previously limited, but new techonlogy have made the an old thing, kinds of a way.
What I want to try to make, is a new system, where "cooperate" and "disrupt" does not have to oppose each other, but in a same direction. this might sound like a crazy_talk(TM). but, in a non-collliding abstract world of data, I think this is possible, if we twist some data here and there. (think something similar to maxwell's damon, or wormhole of 2D space using 3D hyperspace. or 3D space into 4D hyperspace (time dimension is not a full dimension, as we can't go backward easily. or there is a constant movement in one direction, as if there is a universal "gravity" in the time dimension. maybe, there is a world, with micro-time, or hyper-time, just as zero-gravity or blackhole.). kernel trick. some other mathematical concept, where you kick up one more dimension to make a shortcut. where that extra dimension can be viewed as machines.)
this movement has already been slowly rolling on with the internet and wikipedia and github(fork and pull) and other new internet services.
a form of evolution.
--------------------------
I wasn't trying to make it into a 2 class structures.
the reality is that, it is actually a single spectrum, of 2 extremes.
normally, the distribution should be bell curve shaped. fat middle who dont care much.
(if I were to make political party, it would be "population adjusted interest advocating party of we don't really care about that issue. we care about these more real issues party" I am really sick of vocal group on the subjects of noise making.)
and, at the end, the few extremes. small in numbers, but very vocal about it.
And, the interestingness is power-curve shaped on the either end. thus, making it bipolar power-curve.
which makes it into categories.
but, in the actual calculation purpose, I would choose 3 class structure, rather than 2 class structure.
As the correct measurement should be distribution x interestingness. where it would form 3 humps distribution. there is a wide middle section. as it is sparcity, in that dimension as well.
--------------------------
and, now put this 3 class structure into a single dimension, and call it the "politics" dimension.
and, there are many more of these dimensions, such as (just go to bookstore, and find different sections categories). some might have close correlation. some might not.
now, we have a complete picture of human society.
each dimension, by default, is perpendicular to each other, if there is no overlap. in 3 dimensional space, that limits to 3 axis. but, in the hyper-dimensional space, you can add more axis, upto the number of dimension. and, they could all be perpendicular to each other. that is possible in the higher dimensional space. and, if 2 axis are similar, then they would no longer be perpendicular. but, gets closer, like the cosine angle. that would distort all other dimensions, but it would balance out. just kick up more dimension, to reduce the distortion. if you have enough dimension, it would not distort other dimensions. but, that distorsion is doing calculation for another dimension interactions, which is good for stability.
it is easier to begin with a perpendicular, since i like to view wave as a helix. that, a wave function is not a wave fluctuating up and down, but rather a helix that is spinning. thus, much easier to maintain that momentum. and, from flat dimension perspetive(projection), it would look like a wave moving up and down. in math, we used the complex plane, with real number and imaginary number, that when the real number goes down, you are actually shifting the weight into the imaginary plane.
in reality (I mean outside the easily observable reality, thus more "theoretical reality"??), that might not be "imaginary plane". but, just "more difficult to directly measure plane" it could be the dimension, we are not familiar with. the modern physics says we have 10 dimensions, so we have 7 more imaginary/extra plane, that we can use.
(and, this is why I dont believe in hyper-optimization of human society, we need some room for mutation/diversity.)
-----------------------------
let's end this section with another dichotomy.
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,
we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,
we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way -
in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."
===================================
==================================
* elephant in the room.
It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree. - Charles Baudelaire
while we are talking about cooperation, here is one more thing.
When people say "we have communication problem", in most cases, it is not a "communication problem".
it is a greed problem.
when there is a car blinking in front of you, trying to cut in front of you,
there is no loss in communication.
That car wants to cut in.
and, you dont want to let him cut in.
This is not a communication problem. and many people think this is a communication problem, because they can sweet-talk the other person into listenin to them.
but, still, the essense of the problem is not communication.
the real problem is not knowing what is the right/logical/fair way.
believe it or not, there is a market rate for everything.
meaning, there is market expectation for everything. there might be some variations on it. but, there is an average. not matter how absurd it is. the world is pretty big, and there are already many people who are doing it, and have done it.
that is the real reason for the market rate. if you dont want to trade, the market rate bears no meaning. it is only when you want to trade, the market rate matters.
when we accept that "everything has happened" within some error boundary, much of the "communication problem" is gone.
(for this, we use many of data science to solve)
until then, talk to your lawyers, or tax professionals, or computer professionals.
====================================
As mentioned earlier, we said the constant cycle of "cooperation" and "disrupt", is BY DESIGN.
And, it is a good design.
what we are tyring to build is something of a hybrid.
an architecture, that is both for cooperation and disrupt.
from the group point of view, they are working, toward a single goal.
from individual point of view, there is no system, that they are bounded to.
and, this difference can be intermediated by machine.
it enables individuals to cooperate, without being slaves to it.
how can this be possible???
every indivudual can do whatever they like to do??
and, the whole system can function?
well, isnt this just same as capitalism?
the drawback of capitalism is that it is based on trading.
it assumes that everyone has equal information and equal ability.
but, the reality is that, since it is "money"-based system, every effort is focused on the money, which was supposed to be a tool.
ever since we thought "the concept of private property is a good idea", the hoarding and money-focused society was bounded to happen. "things you own, ends up owning you" - fight club.
(in more recent era of "reputation"-based system, reputation is a pre-cursor to money. thus, every effort is focused on the exploiting the reputation system, which is supposed to be a tool, a shortcut. this process is called advertising or marketing or PR. changing the "reputation")
I am not saying capitalism is a bad system. it is just most current system.
capitalism is a very stable system and fraud-resistant system.
yet, it is natural for capitalism to form a pyramid-shaped hierarchy. that is a natural form.
(in theory, socialism is a better system. since it is less cruel)
What we should concentrate, is how to make a better system.
How can we make a system, that is harder to exploit??
when the cost of exploitation exceed the cost of actual work, then people start to work on the real things...
(another question is, do people want to really work, or actually like to exploit others? we are brainwashed to believe being fair is good. but, do we really want fairness? or we want unfair advantage?)
so, the new system is an Invisible System, and with lots of help from the machine.
instead of one hierarchy(pre-strucutred, that everyone is born into one measure), we have a parallel universe type of hierarchy.
imagine of everyone is playing their own chess game, where they are the king, themselves, and their allies are rooks, bishop, knights, pawns. but, in their game, you could be their rook, or knight or pawn. we dont have to be playing a single game. (if you push it furthur, multiple universe, and gradients, and wormholes, you could be rook for personA, and knight for personB, and in a complicated meta-game, of intertwined chess games.)
conceptwise, it is like a tag-model of gmail, instead of folder model of other email service.
that a person can have multiple citizenship. just like online community, where you can have facebook account and google account. having one account does not exclude you from having another account.
if old politician would have made internet, they might have forced you to have only one acccount, for the sake of simplcity. dont get me wrong. having just one online account has its advantage. but mostly it is used to wage a monopolistic power.
There are things that machines are good at.
and there are things the humans are good at.
this is a continuation of industrial revolution. just switch out internal combustion engine to a machine intelligence.
We use machines, to convert individual data into coherent data.
this is called "crowdsourcing".
or, a stock market.
in a way, the system could be acting similar to Maxwell's demon. filtering it to the shape it wants.
(this "utopian" system is not a fully ironed, yet... it seems to go into a recursion.. which could continue into infinity. until the memory runs out. but, not if robots can manufacture the memory hardware faster than the usage needs. then, it never runs out, until the earth is full of storage hardware. by the time, the robots will fly into the outspace, just to make more cloud storage farm... Dyson Sphere!)
----------------
btw,
in a fast changing time, disrupt is good. big group will slow you down.
in a slow changing time, cooperation is good. easy life. maximize happiness of all.
[if the history is correct, it is always moving faster and faster. but, also humans have been getting smarter and smarter.]
so,
the progressives should pick the areas of the interest. what is at the edge of the frontier? progressive knows what are the new awesome things. technology. it might seem foolish. but that is okay. that is a job for a being a fool. i dont mean dumb, or retard. but, a fool, whom at least knows himself is a fool. and dont mind it. enjoys the current ridicule, at the future chance of saying "i told you so"
the conservatives should be the firm rock, that everyone can depend on. if you are young, dont try to be a firm rock. it only comes with the age, and how one lived their life. once that central mass moves, the rest of the crowd will follow. if you are the president of us, everyone listen to you, what is the right manner of being an american.
conservative should always guide, and be the wiseman. that is another form of an art. it is also a bit of "advertisement". but, that is just another word for "education". conservative shuold tolerate as much as possible.
====================================
how computers(algorithm and data) and society(human culture) can work together.
more specically,
it's a blog about civilization of cooperation and disruption, and singularity/cybernetics/hybrid intelligence as a possible solution.
==================================
(
as you might have found out by now, this site are about the things on my mind. a peek into my brain. sorry about difficult to read. human mind is not supposed to be easy to read. I dont even know why I write thesse stuffs.. it is not written to amass a large readerbase. i suck at popularity hoarding. nor do i care. but, these contents, i try to make it insightful and edgy.
each snippets are shorter than a typical 3 part-body essay. my mind dont think that long. heh.
but, longer than 144-char tweets, as those feels like a title of URL, or a blurt comment. i dont like that either.
how about something large enough to contain some meat.
but, not something that is too long, that you dont want to stop reading in the middle, because you have already vested too much time into it.
)
=========================
Techno-utopian.
basically, it collect data into infomation, using data science.
and, it uses computer security to keep out those who want to exploit the whole system. where as too many cling-ons would collapse the system.
the biggest crowdsorucing effort in the history of mankinds, is the INTERNET
without machine, the cooperation structure is usually limited to 100. at max 500.
with internet, billions of people are connected.
it can be viewed as a global control mechanism structure. via education and advertising and brainwashing.
or it could be viewed as something that prevented mass injustice, by making things more transparent. and saved freedom.
in large scale. 1) abuse becomes a problem. fix it with reputation. or equivalent
2) noise becomes a problem. make it more transparent. tax the noise makers, if that noise it causing too much disruption, beyond their usefulness.
lets take a look at 3 main cases.
1) wikipedia
2) search engine: google
3) recaptcha/cleverbot
wikipedia is a great cooperation platform. free (as free beer), and free of advertisemnt. it is a big charity case.
uses cognitive surplus. cognitive charity.
you donate your knowledge. same as quora, reddit.
on the outside, it looks good. but, internally, editors argue over spam and fraud and bias.
the weakness of crowdsourcing is that, it is prone to attack. wikipedia is great, but it had to deal with vandalism, and bias.
wikipedia is an example of "ideal", where there is a need for centrality. one agreeable container.
if you take a look at google(or search engine), little bit more carefully, search engine is something deeper, beside just knowing where things are. it is knowing what is more important.
if you look deeper into what google did,
a) let people do whatever they want. post anything on the internet. (internet did this, not google)
b) post-process with machine intelligence, to organize them. thus make it useful. (google did this)
this is a great cooperation effort, without taxing individual's creativity.
and, this post-processing is the central piece of the future of organizational structure.
this is the secret of google.
it is making "billions of people worf ro you for free".
IMHO, it is more technologically advanced form, than wikipedia. (even though wikipedia works so well, mainly due to nice people. but, my security mind always kicks in. what if people are not nice? what if there is a large sum of money being involved?)
That every thing we produce online is a knowledge unit. unless it is a pure crazy talk, it has some information in them. everything. call log, photo taken, comments, reddit, the most silly websites out there. it all contains some knowledge.
search engine is the first filter that we use.
it is like a claw arm in those doll picking machine. it is still cluncky.
then, we need some other tool to make sense of those data. not individual data. an aggregation of the data. i think wolfram alpha is a good example. wikipedia is also an example of result, using human processors.
so, the next step is to apply machine processing of those big data.
(google: web + search enginer: is more of kNN, or non-linear models. where it is case-by-case, and what matters more is the opinion, not the absolute truth. even though wikipedia ranking will rise to the top. overall, these are excellent systems.)
Then, there is a hybrid format. photosynth.
What recaptcha/cleverbot doing is something better than wikipedia.
and a specialized form of knowledge processing.
that structure is somewhat built in, yet tucked away in a secondary usage.
(I think facebook is ,in a way, this type.)
it does not even require active participation. it extracts knowledge from "regular activity" into something meaningful. it is like those automatic wrist watch, that gets energy from kinetic movements. (IoT)
so, we are trying to recoup all those "activities" from the social networks. or the internet, in general. or any written form of data. or even just any data.
And, we are talking about a new form of human activity. what would a future form of work environment like?
(what i dont understand, is how can people are so willing want to wear ankle bracelets... the advertisement must be working so freaking well.... make it pink or purple, you get 40%. make it shiny and blinking, you get another 30%. make it THE "hip" thing, make celebrity endorse it, you get anothter 20%. the rest 10% would never care, anyways.)
can we have the machine overlord, to assign works to us. without taxing creativity?
yet, also protect from greed and abuse?
we are already half way there. and we need to make it better.
=======================================
ultimately, it is about ideals. having a good taste in things.
and, at the same time, trying new things as well.
so, here is it for the good taste.
==============================
These are some quotes that I like.
====================
I have few pet peeves...
dark colored background.
I think the white colored computer screen is stupid and selfish.
it is like staring into a flat sheet of tiny lightbulbs.
paper is white, because ink was black. that color combo was the most effective, in the physical world.
moving to lcd screen, white background? why? i see more newer service with soothing colored background.
also, bright background will increase the sales. but, it is like that informercial guy, yelling out "buy this!"
I will buy this to shut you up.
but, stop jacking up all the sensory stimulus, just to make quick bucks...
simple, no frill interface. minimal in-bound links. simple times.
nothing should be screaming at you, beside the content itself. put in a plain language.
the opposite of the "like"-farming of puppies and babes and flowers and cutesies.
(Hitler liked puppies and arts. there you go, lets get over the reflex actions.)
it seems like we are back in the 80's. just like this website. screw web 2.0 and web 3.0. this is web 0.1
write without a particular audience in mind. it is like saying it to the open space. more similar to writing a book. than writing a blog. you dont really know me. and i have no idea who you are. but, we talk in the least common denomination of being a human. that is all about it. i want to show you the best things that i know of. (and, if you read this far, I already know you, somewhat.) (on top of that, google analytics says some metadata about you, as well)
===================================
*who:
MindFilled? or Mindless?
I am usually mindless. and vastly unenthusiastic. rather sleepy.
So, what do I think about?
On the surface, these might be best described in terms of these perspectives/lens/outer values/instances/nouns :
-I used to work at CyberSecurity industry. It is an interesting sector, that is never out of action. some interesting things are always happening. I like it since it is a complex problem, that requires multitudes of thoughts. I think about how to solve the computer (in)security. tracer. trace buster. trace buster buster. trace buster buster buster. basically, that is what security industry, that I am familiar with. things that could be done, will be done. the internet is a crazy place. and if you go into that beyond 3~4 std deviation, people are more diverse than you could ever imagine them could possibly be.
-By some incidence*, and natural inclination, I got exposed to Machine Learning, even before it was popularized as Machine Learning. It was called Statistical_Analysis, Data_Mining, or I just call it some_number_crunching to make my life easier. I just wanted to work less, or work smart. So, I started to make simple scripts to automate simple things, then added more and more and more, to the point, it is a push button. then, i broke it down, then built it back. repeat and rinse. to the point of intelligence to help me out, to the point it can replace me. Maybe.. I am coping with my fear of death, or longing for immortality, by building an AI. This is a totally natural tendency for anyone alive. Some people write books. some people create monument. some people make babies. I find this way is the quickest.
The capability of signals distilled in the data is extremely powerful. if the work has been done by any of people alive and ever alive on the earth, and it is good enough, i dont want to repeat the work. Most of the (current) repetitive white-collar jobs are at risk of being replaced. the new type of work force is more about finding a new type of work to do, that is also useful. I would like to see the world's workforce in sync, not at a conflict. we have lots of shits to do.
-Again, by some chance, and maybe general flow of the culture, I got exposed to Startups scene. There are stars. and there are sharks. and, there are tards. When there is large sum of money involved, looks are deceiving. everyone and everything is deceiving. chicken says he will bring the eggs, and asks pigs to bring the bacons. everyone gives away their shitty ideas, and ask for a good idea, and call it an even, in quantity. (this makes other criminals look like a petty amateur.) the best way is, dont listen to what they say, but observe and absorb. I am not listening to a single thing you say. my focus is on one level beyond the surface. use common sense. it's not magic. but, they will say it is magic. and it is too difficult for you to understand. if you can think of a lucrative hack by thinking 2 years on it, think again. most of the easy hacks are already done to the max. you would be surprised to find out. (try registering a clever domain name to test this out.) they already have thought about that. done it. and left it toxic. even self-rationalization could be dangerous. Everyone says everything is revolutionary. Think different. All non-engineer wants to be like SteveJ, and looking a a technical co-founder. they all think the same thing.. in the same way. another social network. another delivery. another quick revenue. If you really think different, (or "think" at all), you would be marginalized since it does not fit with the known or expected revenue model. How can they explain wikipedia??
It is like living 20 years worth of trouble in 2 years time frame. you jump in to make boatloads of money, but come out learning about human greed and psychology, and learning to not underestimate anyone's ability to bend the truth. if you still have 2 kidneys, then you are still okay.
the real professionals are those who tell truths after truths, yet when the oppurtune time come, they will slip in a lie.
those who try many tricks all the time, are being amateurs.
What you really learn, is NOT about how to play a better poker.
but, how to avoid the game of poker. how to avoid that time-waster, that energy sink.
and, if you are bored, how to fuck other's poker game. the meta-poker. that game is called "truth telling".
---------------------------------
well, that's on the outside. the things that i like to do...
let's a look one level beyond the surface..
I am passionate about cybersecurity and machine learning and all these geeky stuffs.
but, it is not really about security, or machine learning.
it is about
-having something you want to find out.
-that task is so big, that you tried to do it manually. but, it just would not scale, or fast enough.
-(if the task was small or trivial, why bother. outsource them.)
-so, you use computer to do it. you leverage the advantage of using computer to the max. fast accurate cheap repetitive.
-you build on top of shoulders of giants. you make a better tool on top of other solid tools. you make something that uses the best of the best, to make something better.
-then, you found something great. the next step is that, you would need to protect it. from the evildoer. as well as surge of traffic. if you don't know how to protect, the better the product it is, more people will fight over it, and cause more trouble than before. a simple way is to include a "poison pill clause", but that is still not good enough.
-maintain reputation.
-then, you will get competitors. and, not only that you need to go forward, you need to also need to think about short-term. how to get your key employee from getting poached by competitor. as well as, how to poach their key employee.
-but, it all starts with finding something you want to do. everything else is just a tool.
That is why, I believe in the centaur model of AI. and thus, not worry too much of whether machines will take over the control, as it is a moot point.
==============================
on the inside, in more permanent world,
"object" means less. it is just trends of this time.
in a mega long run time frame,
I care about the following "type" of things. that is described in "adjectives". the directions.
I care about making things or thinking about things that are:
Smart + Practical + Good.
if it is lacking any one element, i feel quirmsy about it.
i.e. that is smart, but not practical. if it is crazy smart, then i might forgo practicality, but it is just brain-wagging.. or, is that good? is that adding any value to the society?? it could make a quick money, but as far as i know, nothing is really free. also, the outcome is uncertain. so, might as well feel good about doing something...
other than these things, I try very hard to pretend that I am interested.
well, if you put enough flashing lights, I might be interested for a few days...
or make an apple-style video. with white background, with that xylophone melody.
i buy into these stuffs. sounds like sesame street.
still then, in 3 months, i come back to original/natural preferences. and, any shallow tricks I will reveal in details. so, good luck.
------------------------
When it comes to these outer values and inner values, i think in term of Restricted Boltzman Machine(RBM),where the outer values (security, data science, startups) are the visible layer, and the inner values (smart, practical, good) are the hidden layer. there are more than 3 elements in each layer, but, I listed only top 3, as they would account for 95% of the data, due to power law distribution. and, if there is a deeper meaning to each element, there would be another layer, beyond the first hidden layer, in which it would be more like deep_learning. but I dont think my brain works that deep. each element is already chunked enough. )

inserting ads, lets see what happens.
wow, this is ugly.... but, lets see if bot traffic picks on this. or is that a real traffic?
edit: well, it is not that bad. it is getting relevant.

10 words summary of this page = [I. People. Good. Make. System. Cooperation. Disrupt. Problem. Machine. Privacy.]
*disclaimer:
the asterisk* on the title section at the top of this page is used to call out a footnote, a special conditional statement, which is this statement.
the whole website is under a disclaimer. it is the fine-print itself, to something bigger.
everything here is a rough draft. and, everything is constantly being updated.
And, some of the stuffs are machine generated. :p (and, when considering brain as a carbon based machine, this is another moot point.)
*some notes: (in case you missed it)
-minefield and mindfilled is an intentional word play.
-ideal is for the conservatives. those who think there are beautiful things, that should not be polluted from new/cheap/untraditional things.
-idea is for progressives. those who want to try new things.
-ideals and idea is also a word play, with a single letter difference. this single letter difference makes seemly different concept, yet by placing it next to each others, you get to see, they are not that different. this is the process of making 2 different concept, that is in perpendicular in the hyperspace, that you could close down the angle between those 2 vectors. it is no longer 90 degrees, but more or less of 20 degrees. and, in this process, you bring in all other attached meanings to each words to close together.
-the website is full of tiny inside jokes. it adds a bit of "thoughtfulness/intricacy", such as "do you like the new color for the security section? it is the most bad ass RGB color value in the world."
*asterisk(*):
(this is like an exception handler to an exception handler...(and, the funny part is that, i hate using exception handler in my code.. unless it is code written for human reading consumption.))
asterisk means star. the word "asteroid" is from the same origian.
I like stars. the source of energy. the source of mystery.
asterisk * is ASCII decimal 42, which is "the answer to the question to the everything". since * is also a "wild character", an "unknown" character. that makes some sense to me. "future" is "what is unknown". thus "future" is the answer to everything. do you data-science?
I just wanted to end this page with an hitchhiker reference, just to make it more fun.
